Abstract: | The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority manages one of the world’s premier natural resources, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The agency’s strategic and corporate plans set out three objectives:1. Protect and restore the Reef’s biodiversity; 2. Safeguard the Reef’s heritage values; 3. Ensure use of the Region is ecologically sustainable and the socioeconomic benefits derived from the Reef are maintained. Performance against these three objectives is outlined in the agency’s 2013-14 annual report. A key focus for 2013-14 was preparing the second Outlook Report for the Great Barrier Reef and finalising a strategic assessment of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. These are the largest and most up-to-date reports about the Reef’s health and management and, importantly, outline how the Reef will be managed for the next 25-years. |
