Abstract
Also see the attached "Highlights" for a brief overview of the Annual Report.
Effective management of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is more important than ever to ensure the world’s largest coral reef ecosystem is protected for the future. Not only is the Reef internationally recognised for its amazing biodiversity and outstanding natural beauty, it is at the heart of many reef industries and communities for both recreation and their livelihoods. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 enables and guides our management work. Over the past 35 years we’ve invested considerable effort in building the Reef’s resilience. This has placed it in a far better position to withstand threats to its future. However, while the Reef is one of the best managed and healthiest in the world, it faces some challenges.
