Abstract

This document is no longer current. This plan was utilised by the Authority from 2013 to 2016. Since 2017, the Authority has been reviewing and refining our objectives and strategic approach to monitoring risk and assessing impacts following reef health events on the Great Barrier Reef. This document outlined the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's (GBRMPA’s) strategic framework for responses to reef health incidents from 2013 to 2016. It described how we combine broad-scale, longer-term strategic management initiatives with timely and targeted responses to incidents. Both are essential components for managing the long-term resilience of the Great Barrier Reef and the industries and communities that rely upon it. The Reef Health Incident Response System provided a common framework that was used to respond to any reef health incident and enabled us to work with partners, such as the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, to implement effective, collaborative response actions.
