Abstract: The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's Fringing Reef workshop,was held on Magnetic Island during October 1986. The objectives of the workshop were: to bring together scientists, tourist operators, and park managers to ensure continuing cooperation and sharing of information on fringing.reefs; to stimulate interest in all aspects of fringing reefs; and to emphasise the value of fringing reefs for tourism.
