Abstract: The 2004 Reef Beat education series — catchments to coast, provides students and teachers with information about the connectivity between catchments and the Great Barrier Reef. Activities and feature articles included in this resource enable students and teachers to learn more about their local catchments and the Great Barrier Reef, while also helping them to become involved in the recovery of our precious land and reef communities by assisting to improve the quality of water entering the Reef. In 2004, the Reef Beat education series was divided into regions, so students that lived along the coast adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef learnt about issues that directly affected their area. 2004 Reef Beat feature articles were distributed in a range of forms. For example, Reef Beat in the Cairns and Gladstone regions was made available through the Newspapers in Education (NIE) lift out in local newspapers (Cairns Post and Gladstone Observer) during Term 1 of 2004. However, in the Townsville/Thuringowa region, the series was made available to schools through mail-out from the GBRMPA during Term 2.
